Geotechnical and geo-environmental engineering — modifying clays and biochar for environmental control, and building sustainable, resilient ground.

The ground beneath us forms the foundation of every structure we build, while the responsible management of natural resources and the environment is essential for a resilient future. This field offers the unique opportunity to address fundamental engineering challenges while developing solutions that are safe, sustainable, and socially relevant.

My research interests have evolved from a desire to understand soil behaviour to exploring innovative and sustainable materials, circular economy approaches, and climate-resilient geotechnical solutions. I am particularly inspired by the potential of research to bridge fundamental science with practical engineering, translating laboratory discoveries into technologies and practices that benefit communities and the environment.

As an educator and researcher, I see geotechnical and geoenvironmental engineering not merely as a discipline, but as a platform to inspire future engineers to think critically, innovate responsibly, and design infrastructure that serves both people and the planet. This purpose continues to drive my teaching, research, and collaborations.
